I'm curious... this is halfway between hardware and ATS question but here goes:
I ordered this: http://www.supermicro.com/products/nfo/2UTwin3.cfm by accident and I'm thinking about keeping it. There are 8 totally, physically separate machines inside this one 2U chassis. Each have dual-core Intel Atom D525 CPUs (dual-core 1.8ghz with HT so 4 threads). I'm thinking about keeping it and renting out each of the 8 machines to guys trying to run individual strategies.
Does hearing “Intel Atom” with a max of 4GB RAM scare you vs. hearing “dual Xeon blah blah”??
I’d appreciate thoughts & comments. I know that the vast majority of traders running algos do so on machines that are very overkill for their needs – I think the Atom D525 is an appropriate solution for trading only (not backtest or optimization) but I’m asking to learn what others think.
Thx for comments & feedback.
